Cassidae
Updated August 29, 2008
(Feature Guide).......(Contact us!)......Other Family Lists
Note: Cassidae has long been one of my personal favorites because of the wonderful variety of shapes and surface sculpturing the family boasts, along with some great colors and patterns! It is a small family, with only about 85 species and 130 or so taxa (species, forms, varieties) in total. Most live in relatively shallow water and eat echinoderms such as sea urchins. The shells are usually rather sturdy, and are easy to clean and take care of. |
